God is Doing a New Thing!
December 10th, 2017
God is doing a new thing and we don't want to miss it! We have been keeping awake and preparing ourselves to receive the heavenly gift from our Lord, Jesus Christ as He transforms our minds, our congregation, and our community into something even greater than we could ever imagine. We patiently await the coming of Jesus as new baby, giving new life and new salvation to our world and showing us the new and incredible ways we can make a difference for Him. We use this Advent Season to celebrate everything that God has done in and through us, as well as clear a path for Him to unveil His new thing in our lives. We have been lighting the Advent Candles each week and reflecting on how we can prepare a path for Him to enter our hearts.
On the first Sunday in Advent, we vowed to keep awake and to stay vigilant. We took communion together as a church family and remembered the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus giving his life so that we could be saved. On the second Sunday in Advent, we experienced the Christmas story through the eyes of our children as the youngest members of Sampson's Mills presented to us their reenactment of the first Christmas as told in the hymn, The First Noel. We searched our own hearts back to our childhood roots to prepare a path for Jesus to come and rejuvenate us.
This coming Sunday, December 17, will be the third Sunday in Advent. Come join us as we celebrate the season with a service full of music! There will be performances by our Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir, as well as several soloists and small ensembles. We will light the third Advent Candle, which signifies Joy. While we reflect on the joy Mary felt knowing she was about to bear the Son of God, we also celebrate the joy of music with those who want to share their musical gifts for His glory.
On Sunday December 24, we will celebrate at 11:00am with the lighting of the fourth Advent Candle followed by a traditional Lessons and Carols service. Join us for this comfy, cozy, and casual Christmas Eve Morning service full of music, readings, fun, and fellowship!
Then that same evening, at 7:00pm, we will join together for a traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. We will feature a brass quartet to accompany our hymns and celebrate together what we've all been waiting for: the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! And with that celebration comes the unveiling of God's New Thing in us. By this time we will have prepared ourselves for God to transform our hearts and minds and show us His plan and His path for us to follow. What new thing will God have in store for you? Come join us and find out! Thanks be to God!
